What To Expect From A Manicure For Men

For the timid, or for the man who may think manicures are for women only, a manicure for men may be easier to handle or accept once they know what's involved. No - you won't find screwdrivers, sockets, quarter inch drives, or solder kit tools used in the process, although that would certainly be an interesting approach. Instead, you'll find typical nail care accessories that are used to bring abused and/or neglected fingernails to a healthy looking state. For males, the important thing to remember is that a manicure for men is beneficial for health more than appearance. A manicure for men is certainly an important part of overall health care.
So what you'll need if you're going to give yourself a manicure for men - or if you elect to go to a salon and get a manicure for men, are:
a base coat of clear polish (similar to a base coat of wall paint, known as primer)
cotton pads (rather than lint-y cotton balls)
an emery board to shape the nails (and men should appreciate the way that emery boards simulate a block of sand paper)
an orangewood stick, and
a bowl of warm water used to soften both the fingernails and the cuticles
The whole process will take only about twenty minutes - giving you plenty of time to prepare for the next football game or boxing match that's about to come on cable television.
First, you want to remove any old polish if you're already wearing it with a cotton pad and nail polish remover. If your fingernails are long you will need to clip them to a shorter length, and then gently file them with your emery board at a forty-five degree angle toward the center.
Soak your fingernails in the bowl of warm water you prepared earlier for about ten minutes. Soaking your fingernails will help dislodge any dirt, oil and debris that you might have created when you filed them.
When your ten minutes are up, dry your hands and use another cotton pad to gently push back the cuticle of each finger. You want to be extremely careful while doing this because for some, this part of the manicure might be a little painful - especially if it's never been done before.
When finished with that, pick up your orange stick and use it to clean under each fingernail.
Now, to protect the nail, lightly cover each nail with a thin coat of clear polish for a slight shine and to give your fingernails an even healthier look.
